About Us
Te Kaha Rangatahi is a Mātauranga Maori grounded, health, education, and leadership programme. The aim of the programme is to help rangatahi through a very unique time in their life by using tradition.
Through our programme, we provide rangatahi with the necessary tools, resources, and support to thrive in their personal and educational journey. We believe that by embracing the rich knowledge and values of our ancestors, we can empower rangatahi to become confident leaders and contributors to their community.
Our holistic approach focuses not only on academic success but also on the well-being and cultural identity of our rangatahi. We understand the challenges they face and work closely with them to build resilience, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging.
Our Team
Raun Makirere-Haerewa Chairman
Raun Makirere-Haerewa grew up in Flaxmere, where he began his education at Peterhead Primary School, later attending Hastings Intermediate, Karamu High School, and ultimately Hastings Boys' High School. He is a proud father of seven beautiful children and shares his life with his wonderful partner Treyana Faulkner. Raun’s whakapapa connects him to Ruatoria and Aitutaki, reflecting his deep roots within both Māori and Pacific heritage.
In addition to his community involvement, Raun serves as the chairman and an active member of the Te Kaha Rangatahi Charitable Trust. With a background in athlete development, he spent five years as a strength and conditioning coach for young athletes. Over the past three years, Raun has transitioned into community development, focusing on empowering rangatahi, particularly within the Māori community. His commitment to helping Māori youth realize their potential and cultural identity remains at the core of his work. He is always open to discussions about the Trust's initiatives and eager to offer support where needed.
